Coach Saintignon began his playing career in Tucson, Arizona playing for Salpointe Catholic where he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He then continued his playing career at UC Santa Cruz and at UC San Diego, where he led the Nation in scoring and finished in the top 10 all-time NCAA scoring list totaling over 2,450 points in his career. He played professional basketball in Spain and Mexico for three years before having the opportunity to tryout for the Chicago Bulls of the NBA in 1989. As coach of the Bonita Vista High Barons he led his team to the San Diego Section Division 1 CIF Basketball Championship finishing with an overall record of 30-5. This was the first ever CIF Championship in Basketball in Bonita Vista High History.
